2010 2nd UBZ Choir Competition

Come the 11th of July when all the world cup fever comes to an end and all the visitors start packing up and leaving our shores. What more is left for us, is there anything else to be excited about? The answer is a simple yes! This time of the year is of importance to the Zion communities and those that love their music.

Forget the sound of soccer balls, whistles and vuvuzelas. It is time to enjoy the stamping sound of feet to ground, the soothing voices mixed with a catchy noise called "is'futho" a Zion instrument produced by a mere combination of mouth and teeth. This is the time where Zion church choirs from all over South Africa get together in the township of Alexandra to showcase their talent and a trophy is at stake. Yes! The 7th of August is the day chosen to stage the ever growing 2nd buhle Buka Zioni Choir Competition "Wadla Jesu, Washweba Sathane" which loosely translate "Jesus gains while Satan loses" by such beauty all in God's name.

Ubuhle Buka Zioni Choir Competition is an annual event which is aimed at getting churches from all over South Africa to come and worship God, strengthen relations and also get to take something away as a price. It features 15 choirs all fighting for the ultimate first position in singing, consolation prices for the 2nd and the 3rd place choirs is also at stake. We will also be featuring Blessings of Christ as our guest choir on the day to keep the audiences entertained between the tense competition intervals. Blessings of Christ are a successful Zion gospel group which has released a lot of albums to date and also sold a lot.

This prestigious event will be hosted at the Eastbank Hall in Alexandra township and features choirs from as far as Siyabuswa (Mpumalanga), Ratanda (Heidelberg) and also Tsakane. Along with various others from the townships nearby Alexandra such as Soweto, Tembisa, Voslorus,etc. Registration for choirs is still open till the 30th of June, only 4 spots are available so make sure your choir doesn't miss out.

This year's edition promises to be even bigger than the first one. Choirs are working twice as hard so they can be crowned the 2010 UBZ Choir Competition winners and emulate what St. messias church of God (Abanqobi) achieved last year. who will be crowned this year, can St Messias repeat what they did last year or will the trophy leave Alexandra? These are some of the questions on peoples minds of which will be answered come the 7th of August. Make sure you are there to witness this spectacular event and see how beautiful Zion can be . . .
